Prior to entering the GIS world, Jason spent 12 years in video game development, leading production teams in sound design, management, implementation, and tool development. Since moving into GIS he has leveraged his technical skills and interest in mobile data collection to embrace more accessible tablet use within the GIS field. Prior to joining Silvacare he worked for the Forestry Department at Vancouver Island University as GIS Technician, where he consolidated datasets, brought historic woodlot data from paper to digital, supported analysis for management plans, as well as improved accuracy of data through Trimble field surveys and topological editing. While with VIU he also gained experience with RESULTS reporting, Phoenix Pro silvicultural software, and helped bring tablet computing into the Forestry curriculum. He has worked in municipal GIS, working with HAZUS-MH disaster modelling software from Natural Resources Canada / FEMA for the Cowichan Valley Regional District, handled GIS for the Public Works Engineering Dept. of the Town Of Comox, and has also worked in GIS for the Comox Valley Regional District.
